Arsenal: No worries world, we’ve got Reiss Nelson
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s transfer window went sour really quickly, but here we stand and we still have Reiss Nelson. So let’s play some damn ball.
There is so much negativity surrounding the closing of the transfer window, myself included, and rightly so. Arsenal looked to be a club without a plan, throwing money at a wall and hoping they could pull something off before time ran out.

When you’ve got three months to figure something out and you don’t take it seriously until those three months have become six hours, you are going to look like a major procrastinating arse that, as mentioned, didn’t have a plan.
But it’s over now. There’s nothing we can do about it. Thomas Lemar isn’t here. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t here. Alexis Sanchez doesn’t want to be here.
Where do you find the positivity in all of this? Easy. We still have Reiss Nelson. After seeing him explode onto the U23 scene in 2016/17 and follow that up with a superb preseason tour with the senior club, people were already calling for his arrival with the first team.
I even made the claim that if either Hector Bellerin or Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain really wanted to leave, they could. Because Nelson was ready. Not necessarily to take over first team duties, but to be there as an impact sub, ready to make a difference.

Well, the latter did leave. So here we are.
In case you were wondering, Nelson hasn’t stopped. With the U23s this year, he has scored five goals in in 270 minutes. That’s a goal every 54 minutes. And these aren’t your run-of-the-mill goals. Nothing like what Raheem Sterling does where he finds a ball at his foot and pumps it in.
Nelson is just 17 years old and has become the best player in our youth ranks. He’s younger than Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain when that snake made his breakthrough with the first team. He’s just as fast, better on the ball, and is already showing a better final ball.
So yeah, I’ll take what we got and not be bitter about it.
The only real question is whether or not Arsene Wenger will choose Nelson or Mathieu Debuchy to step up, but even the staunches Wenger-outers have to believe that it will be Nelson. There is no way around it, he’s a firecracker than can light a fire under the dead arse of this club.

And if he’s good enough, he can force Wenger to move Bellerin to left back and relegate Sead Kolasinac to the bench again. So we always have that to look forward to too.
