Arsenal: Thomas Lemar rejection hardly the end of it
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal were rejected by Thomas Lemar and that certainly doesn’t feel good, but that’s hardly the end of this ongoing transfer saga.
In case you haven’t heard, and if you haven’t, how haven’t you, Thomas Lemar rejected Arsenal on transfer deadline day. Naturally, this is going to get massive publicity, mostly because just about everyone that the Gunners want, they get.

You’ll notice most of the rejection jabs coming from rivals mocking the Gunners, but when you think about the number of players who we absolutely know have rejected Arsenal, Lemar tops the list. Jamie Vardy is on it, but that worked out for the better. And then who? N’Golo Kante.
That’s three.
Three players that have rejected Arsenal. Manchester United and Chelsea alone have to account for double digit rejections from this summer alone.
But I digress.
While the rejection certainly stings, as Arsene Wenger pointed out, he rejected to stay at Monaco. It wasn’t exactly the most opportune time to be swinging a last minute deal as the man was on international duty with France, where he scored two goals.
I have pointed this out before, but the main thing I want us all to remember is that Alexandre Lacazette wasn’t too keen on not playing Champions League either. He was swayed by Arsene Wenger because Wenger had time to sway him.

I don’t know what happened in those three months prior to the deadline day rejection, but waiting until the last day did not given Lemar the chance to make a decision.
This only increases the odds that he signs for Arsenal in the future. Monaco are a selling club. They sold over half of their regular starting XI last summer and they have replaced them all just fine. Lemar is going to be sold next summer and conveniently, next summer the Gunners will be losing out on at least Alexis Sanchez and maybe more.
With this fortuitous reset on irresponsible wages from the rest of the exits, Lemar will be on his way out and Wenger will have all season to sweet talk the Frenchman.
Of course, matters would be made a hell of a lot easier if the Gunners could squeeze their way into Champions League play, but that is something we don’t have to worry about just yet. Wenger does still have draw. Again, look at Lacazette. He is rarely ever rejected.

Don’t buy into this “he preferred Liverpool” garbage. There is no evidence of that. All summer they were reporting that he wanted the move to Arsenal and that move is still on, it just has to wait now.
