Arsenal: Does Mesut Ozil quietly want the same thing as Alexis Sanchez?
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal legend Ian Wright called out Mesut Ozilfor hiding behind Alexis Sanchez, Maybe there is a bit more to his hiding than we think.
Let me begin this by saying that I ask forgiveness for the theory I am about to propose. I am a big admirer of Mesut Ozil and what he does for Arsenal and I don’t want to believe this theory that I am proposing. I have been hard on him in the past, but I would never take away from what he has done for the club.

This theory is more so a conspiracy theory of sorts, something that came to me that made me stop and wonder ‘what if?’
And so, here it is: what if Mesut Ozil is in the exact same boat as Alexis Sanchez, but is just quieter and more sly about his thoughts on the situation? Ian Wright calling him out for “hiding” behind Alexis’s situation while not signing anything himself resonated with me. It’s been bouncing around in my head and this is what has come out of it.
When we see Mesut Ozil play for Germany, we see an inspired man with so many capabilities and nary a downfall. He is everything you could possibly want in a creative attacker. He looks quicker, smarter and happier.
When he returns to Arsenal, he conforms to the general sense of despair. He has the tendency to go missing, despite the fantastic created chances numbers and the assists are fewer and farther between then they used to be.

Could it be that Ozil is just as unhappy as Alexis and really was letting his Chilean team mate take the spotlight while he himself just rode out the rest of his deal?
It’s no secret that there wasn’t a lot of interest in Ozil this summer, and that’s another reason not to cause a big hubbub. Because chances are, you’ll still have to serve your last year on this contract anyway, so why bring it into the light and make yourself another villain when you could just slip under the radar and appease fans with a quick “I’d like to stay?”
Again, I don’t want to believe that this is what is happening because Ozil is such a strong leader in his own way and he is an inspiration for the younger players on the team. But the fact that he hasn’t signed a new deal is really hard to get around.
Hopefully that new deal will come soon and we can forget that I ever said any of this. I was under the impression that with the transfer window closed, he should be able to lock into a new deal by the end of this month.

Ideally, that happens and we can have one bit of good news to pierce the darkness. I want thoughts on this. Someone tell me that I am wrong and prove it. I like Ozil too much to be thinking like this.
