Arsenal will be looking for a smooth win over Bournemouth at home, and Jack Wilshere may be the biggest beneficiary if everything goes according to plan.

When you’ve gone through an entire transfer window watching Arsenal complete neglect any sort of deals for a central midfielders, you know that Arsene Wenger must have a plan concocted in that noggin of his. Because to think that Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey are capable of running first team duties on their own all season is just ludicrous.

Us optimists like to think that that plan involves Jack Wilshere.

After seeing Jack Wilshere play a bit of a different game against the Manchester City U23s – a game in which he sat deep and let play develop in front of him – I couldn’t help but think that this was his new directive to get back into the first team.

If Wilshere can replicate that same strategy with the first team, then what’s stopping him?

With Bournemouth up next, a massive helping of the questions directed at Arsene Wenger involved Jack Wilshere. Would he be ready, would he play, would he even be in the team? Wenger responded inconclusively to everything.

Despite Wilshere lashing out a bit on Tyrone Mings’ academy invitation.

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gone, that extra first team space should go to Wilshere and by that extension, he should shoot up the ranks of impact subs.

Granted, with Wenger, he is going to take things cautiously, meaning that the only way that Wilshere gets introduced against Bournemouth is if the Gunners have a comfortable lead. Which, correct me if I’m wrong, seems very likely.

Meaning that, despite the lukewarm responses by Wenger, we may be seeing Wilshere making another majestic return to the first team today.

My logic is pretty simple. I don’t see who else Wenger would bring into the team besides Wilshere. If it’s Mathieu Debuchy, I quit. I quit life. Reiss Nelson could possibly, but he played for the U23s Friday night.

Wilshere didn’t (pesky red cards).

Not only that, but Wilshere played for Bournemouth last year. And this may seem like a stretch, but I really don’t think it is, seeing as how City’s U23s were going after Wilshere. But, while there is no guaranteed safety on the pitch, Wilshere is less likely to face a rash tackle against a team that he served all of last year.

So when the Gunners get that big lead, get ready to give Wilshere and ovation when he comes on in the 80th minute.
