Arsenal achieved a downright steal landing Sead Kolasinac for free. But just because it happened already doesn’t mean it can’t happen again.

I wasn’t kidding when I said earlier in the summer that I was just as excited for Sead Kolasinac to be at Arsenal as I was Alexandre Lacazette. Almost more so, just because Kolasinac had so many missing parts this club sorely lacked.

And now that he was finally used where he should be used against Bournemouth, it’s safe to say everyone gets it. He has so many utilities that you can’t find in your average, every day wingback.

The fact that he was free just makes it more worthy of our celebrations.

And while they say that lightning doesn’t strike twice, I’d say that mother nature would make an exception here. Now that we see the quality that can come from a free transfer, more specifically a free transfer from Schalke, why not go back to the same resource that gave us such a blessing in the Bosnian?

For that matter, wouldn’t Kolasinac be an excellent resource to tell two of his former teammates, who are leaving on a free next summer, how wonderful life here in North London is?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I am speaking of Max Meyer and Leon Goretzka. Both of whom fill an immediate need and neither of whom would cost a dime.

Goretzka is the real deal already. He is making an impact on the German national team and I’m convinced he’s the reason that Wenger has neglected the midfield this summer. Because you can’t possibly look at our midfield and feel all that confident in its depth. Goretzka solves that.

And, if Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are indeed going to be moving on and Thomas Lemar is one answer, whose the other? Max Meyer is a fantastic option that, while not as much of a guarantee as Kolasinac or Goretzka, would provide an excellent candidate for a bit of internal competition for those two attacking midfield roles.

If Meyer ends up being a dud, so what, he was free.

There is nothing to lose here and, as Kolasinac has proven, so much to gain. Especially if money really is limited as we are being led to believe. If we take home these two and add in Lemar, it would be three quality players for under £100m. That’s quite the bargain.

It’s never too early to start identifying solutions. Hopefully these two have already been short-listed.
