Alexis Sanchez was spotted briefly laughing during Arsenal’s match against Chelsea. But don’t believe what the media is telling you about it.

Arsenal’s battle with Chelsea had a couple choice opportunities where the Gunners could have gone ahead. But no opportunity was as thrilling and exciting as when Aaron Ramsey slipped right through the Chelsea defense and plunked the post before Alexandre Lacazette skied the rebound on an open net.

Lacazette absolutely should have done better, but no one is talking about that. Everyone is talking about the reaction on the Gunners bench, where you could see the excitement building and building into a final let down.

Olivier Giroud was engrossed in the action before burying his face in his hands. David Ospina rose to his feet with his team mates. Alexis Sanchez was right there with them, rising to his feet, about to get excited, and then he succumbed to laughing and joking slapping Ospina.

And people are mad. The screen grab that had been used in the article slating Alexis for his reaction doesn’t tell the story. It tells the story that would get the most attention, and it has done that.

This was not a case of Alexis not caring, or rejoicing in the failure of his team to score. You can see from his face in the build up to the chance that he was on ready to burst out into celebration when the goal went in. When it didn’t, he let off the anticipation with laughter.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and it drives me crazy that the media is back, hard at work, trying to drive a wedge between fans and their support of Alexis.

I was actually relieved by Alexis’s reaction because it showed how engulfed he was in the action, despite being on the bench. This is a stark contrast to other examples, where he has been sulking on the bench or smirking as his team falls behind.

Arsene Wenger tells us that Alexis is happy here and I don’t see why we have much reason to doubt that. You can be frustrated with a team and still be happy there and if it was really that bad, then I believe he would have been sold right away.

Wenger is all about harmony in the squad and if there is a guy there who he knows will disrupt that harmony, he would have sold them. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, for instance.

Alexis looked like a supporter on the bench during that build up. And that showed me that he still cares where this season goes.
