Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette craving an Alvaro Morata day
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal broke records to land Alexandre Lacazette and while patience is certainly required, he is falling far behind the pace of his competitors.
Arsenal has been in need of a striker like Alexandre Lacazette for about half a decade. But now that they finally have him, they’ve struggled more than ever to find any sort of attacking consistency. Meanwhile, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are brutally destroying lower-tiered opposition.

And they’re both doing it with counterparts of Lacazette – Alvaro Morata, Sergio Aguero, and Romelu Lukaku.
Going into Monday’s match against West Brom, the Gunners have scored 14 less goals than City, 10 less than United and five less than Chelsea. And it’s only matchday six.
There needs to be a breakthrough with this attack, and it’s hard to pinpoint where that starts because of all the moving pieces. No one knows who the go-to attackers are anymore and injuries have made it even more of a muddled mess.
The one person that seems to be a constant is Alexandre Lacazette. It’s unrealistic to expect him to go out there, score four goals against West Brom, and leap into the tie for first at the top of the scoring charts. Lacazette absolutely needs time to get his footing and that’s extra hard to do without consistent attacking mates.

But really, all he needs is that big breakthrough day like Alvaro Morata just had. Confidence is the main thing that is needed to get over that acclimation period and one huge outburst of a day is usually quite the confidence booster.
This is even harder to do when Arsene Wenger feels the need to take off Lacazette and leave the team without a striker when they are entering into the final half hour of the match.
However, this, too, is overcame with one, bit day. I’m thinking a brace. Let’s start there. Leveling the goal tally with Harry Kane would be a huge booster and proof that he is making strides in this league that it’s just so tough to get into (that’s partial sarcasm).
West Brom may be a tough place to start that quest for the big breakthrough game though, as they are a defensive-heavy team that sits back and does not try to fight for all that much possession. It will all come down to the Gunners ability to infiltrate, and without knowing who will be in that starting XI, it’s hard to determine how possible that will be.

However, seeing as how the Gunners will be nearly monopolizing possession, Lacazette should see plenty of touches and that is something we have seen far too little of in his brief North London career.
