Arsenal’s prodigal son Jack Wilshere has confirmed that he does not want to leave the club, which sure sounds nice, doesn’t it?

Arsenal football club is in a transitional phase that sees a lot of players with their futures on the fence. Or rather, two players often regarded as their two best players with their future’s on the fence.

Neither Alexis Sanchez nor Mesut Ozil looks keen to stay as neither has spoken very clearly about what their intentions are lately. Alexis has made it crystal clear that his preference is to leave, but Ozil did indicate that his preference was to stay.

That was months ago, with no progress being made since. Most people have just gone ahead and accepted that they’re leaving. I know I have.

In fact, there hasn’t been a lot of talk about people’s futures lately. While Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey are going into contract negotiations (supposedly), we still haven’t heard anything from them. The assumption is that they want to stay, but with so little confirmation about players wanting to stay lately and far more indications about potential exits, it’s nervy.

Then there is Jack Wilshere, who I will forever refer to as Arsene Wenger‘s prodigal son. Wilshere’s future was thrown into the air by the media when he returned from the Bournemouth loan as they tied him to exits to Italy or potentially to West Ham.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Nothing ever happened and, as I recently explored, I don’t think that the lack of a contract has anything to do with his want to stay, but merely with a desire to see how everything plays out with his return before we go diving into negotiations.

But in case you were wondering if he wants to stay, consider his on words (via the Guardian):

"Do I see myself staying? Of course I do. I have always been at Arsenal, I love this club. They have been good to me over the years, I have a great relationship with the boss. He has played me since I was 17. He has put his trust in me since then. We have a great understanding and of course I want to stay."

It doesn’t get more definite than that. And while we should have already known he’d want to stay, hearing it, amidst all those either not saying it or saying and doing the opposite, is a breath of fresh air.
