Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil, Alexis trio not the endgoal
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal nation wants to see the fabled trio on the pitch together, but is that even the best possible trio we can think of?
Ever since Alexandre Lacazette arrived at Arsenal, everyone has been eagerly awaiting seeing him play in a front three with our other two high-priced superstars, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. And for just cause. These are three of our best players and three of our deadliest attackers.

Strangely enough, we have had to wait until October in our prolonged wait to see this trio deployed. Between injuries and (perhaps) being out of favor, one thing or another has gotten in the way of their usage and the wait has continued.
Thank to Mesut Ozil’s injury, however, the opportunity to see these three together is yet again going put off, as the German missed the match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
I won’t take anything away from what this trio could be. These are three elite players who are or soon will be world class. It has been quite some time since Arsenal’s attack could say they are being led by the likes of that.
But, if I may be so bold, I don’t see this trio as the end goal. No doubt having Ozil to pick out Lacazette’s runs and having Alexis to combine with the Frenchman is something to be excited about, but I’m already over this trio and onto the next one, which could well be a superior one.

That next one involves who else but Jack Wilshere.
No one at Arsenal (and no one in a much bigger scope, perhaps in all of England) can work the tight spaces of interplay better than Wilshere. He is the poster child of Wengerball.
There are certain players that this style directly benefits and Lacazette is one of them. Lacazette, too, is excellent in tight spaces, secure with the ball and capable of squirting through intelligent passes with little room to work with.
I’m more intent on seeing Wilshere and Lacazette play together than I am of seeing the expensive trio. Mostly because, for as talented as Alexis is, Wengerball isn’t his thing. He slows play down and deliberates his next move. He isn’t a sharp, almost impulsive, attacker with flick-ons and cheeky moves.

As far as who should complete the trio, well that is the great question. Olivier Giroud could round it off. Aaron Ramsey could. The point is, stardom doesn’t build the trio.
