Martin Keown has stated that there is only one outcome regarding Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal future: He will leave in January. Perhaps, that one outcome is the best outcome.

The form of Mesut Ozil is an increasing concern. During the summer, with just a year left on his contract, there was much debate about whether it would be wise or not for Arsenal to keep hold of their enigmatic German. Now, just a few short and frustrating months later, it seems as though keeping him was a mistake.

The anger of the fans came to the boil in the aftermath of the loss to Watford on Saturday. Ozil, who was introduced for Danny Welbeck after an injury to the striker forced him off earlier in the second half, was a primary culprit for the loss, missing a gilt-edged opportunity just before the penalty controversy, and then suffering a loose touch, before, lazily, meandering around, in the build-up to the last-gasp winner.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Such a tepid and timid performance from Ozil has led to many suggesting that he will be sold in the January transfer window, the latest of which being Martin Keown. Speaking in his role as a pundit on BT Sport, Keown stated that there was only one outcome to the Ozil situation:

"“Is he really bothered? He’s just missed a chance to win a game for Arsenal. Everything that happens afterwards wouldn’t have happened. I don’t know if he cares enough or not but he’s certainly not ruthless enough. He had a gilt-edged opportunity to wrap up proceedings today and he didn’t take it. There’s only one outcome here. When it comes to January surely Mesut Ozil will be gone.”"

Now, it is perhaps a little hasty to suggest that there is only ‘one outcome’. This is football, after all. But the point that Keown makes is a valid one: Ozil is becoming more and more of a useless figure in the squad, and may actually become a detrimental one, to the point that Wenger will want to sell him come January.

And that is something that, as a rather bullish Ozil supporter, I would, traditionally, have disagreed with. However, I have grown tired of him. I have grown tired of his laziness. I have grown tired of his defensive lapses. I have grown tired of his disinterest. I have grown tired of his lack of desire and heart and fight. I have grown tired of Mesut Ozil.

That is not a sentence that I ever thought I would write. But, it is nonetheless true. It is time for Ozil to leave. It would the best outcome for him and the club.
