Arsenal supporters the world over want to see Jack Wilshere take someone’s spot in the starting XI, but Arsene Wenger is apparently in no hurry.

Sometimes, all you can do is believe. As an Arsenal fan, that little giblet of inspiration is doubly true because for the past fifteen years, we’ve been powerless to do anything but believe. It’s the same people in power year after year, the same types of players come and go and the problems also remain the same.

Hearing Troy Deeney tell the world that this squad lacked “cojones” was barely even worth fighting back against. Of course, there was plenty of shtick given to Deeney himself, but those words? Not so much.

It all hinges on Jack Wilshere and his return to the starting XI in the Premier League – which is so sorely needed that many are willing to see Wilshere risked on short rest just to get him back in there.

It’s going to have to wait, apparently, as Arsene Wenger has had a lot to say to the Guardian, none of which did anything except push off the idea of slipping Wilshere back where he belongs.

Here’s his spiel:

"It is impossible to come from a game of that intensity [in Belgrade] and play. Of course I left 10 or 11 players at home. I decided to rotate at the start of the season and will continue to do so. But the time will come when the rotation can go another way.More from Pain in the Arsenal3 observations from Arsenal’s victory at Goodison Park3 standout players from 1-0 victory over Everton3 positives & negatives from Goodison Park victoryArsenal vs PSV preview: Prediction, team news & lineups3 talking points from Arsenal’s victory at Goodison Park"

So essentially, what he’s saying is that Wilshere will not be in the starting XI, so it’s best that we just don’t get our hopes up, like we had been doing, Substitute duties? That’s possible. But we are going to be kept waiting for his big return.

He did offer that bit of encouragement by saying that the time will come when the rotation can go the other way, but my beef with that is that the time already came. Last international break came at a perfect time to slip Wilshere in and fix a problem before it started against Watford.

You know, that game where lacked character?

Hindsight is 20/20, but I believe we can all safely say this has nothing to do with hindsight. We all wanted Wilshere back in that XI and I don’t know of many in the team who we wouldn’t have mind seeing replaced by him.

It’s a shame, but all we can do now is move forward and hope that the next time these rotations can switch around, that they actually will switch around.
