Arsenal may have loftier goals than the League Cup, but there is still going to be plenty to watch for against Norwich City. Here’s all you need to know.

Arsenal’s jam-packed schedule finally sees them return home to the Emirates to face off against the Canaries of Norwich City in the Carabao Cup. The Gunners have been using a mixture of youth and veterans in these side competitions, and this one figures to be no different, although with Arsene Wenger, you always have to be ready for the unexpected.

The one player that everyone is going to be looking forward to the most is Jack Wilshere. The Englishman orchestrated an absolute beauty against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia on Thursday and he created another for Aaron Ramsey in the Premier League just two days ago.

It’s assumed that he will be starting here, as well as serving as the primary controller and creator as it’ll be up to him to be the conduit of a hodge-podge squad (say that five times fast). Of course, get ready to be bull-dozed by headlines if he isn’t starting because that will mean that the rotation has switched and Wilshere is ready for a return to steady Premier League action.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Reiss Nelson is another to keep an eye on. The 17-year-old is the most exciting prospect in the ranks and anytime he is out there, there is the chance to see some serious magic. Whether he plays in his preferred advanced role, however, is still anyone’s guess, though the trend would hint at a ‘no’.

And then of course there is the unfortunate Olivier Giroud, who just can’t seem to please Wenger. Despite being intensely loyal and intensely useful, as well as winning the FIFA goal of the year, he is still a sudden outcast with eyes on so much more.

He will, as always, be hoping to use these side competitions as a vault to land more consistent game time, although with how regimented Wenger has things, it’s never likely.

Norwich City, meanwhile, are on an optimistic run up the EFL Championship table, where they currently find themselves in sixth, and in view of a potential promotion. They haven’t been beaten in any competition since August, so the Canaries will have themselves a dollop of confidence coming into the Emirates.
