Arsene Wenger did the unthinkable and sat Alexandre Lacazette again. Which crosses the border into embarrassing. How can you consciously make that decision for an Arsenal club you love?

Arsene Wenger made a big mistake once this year. Against Liverpool, he sat Arsenal’s record signing, world class striker Alexandre Lacazette. At the time, it was stupid, but we could clearly see the mindset of Arsene Wenger – he wanted to protect him.

In response, Arsenal’s attack fell flat and were spanked 4-0, the worst loss of the season. It became clear at that point that Lacazette would never be willfully sat again by the man they call Le Prof.

And then Manchester City happened. In what has to be the most baffling, dumbest, bewildering decision I can ever remember Arsene Wenger making, he sat Lacazette. Again. No one on the team has scored more goals. Not even close. And he was sat.

Sat for Alexis Sanchez, who doesn’t even want to be here. Now if that isn’t the most backward, dumb-arsed thing you’ve ever heard, I don’t know what the hell is. I would unleash more expletives, but I’ve been told to limit my usage, so I’ll just let out one giant “what the hell.”

What ensued was exactly what you’d expect and exactly what we saw against Liverpool. Complete and utter offensive limpness. It’s hard to not see that the two are related. Lacazette sits, and the Arsenal attack does something that rhymes with sits but add an h somewhere between the s and the i.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It’s gotten to the point now where I am actually embarrassed. I am embarrassed that my manager keeps sitting the one guy who is consistently scoring for us. I am embarrassed that he can’t learn from his past mistakes. And I’m embarrassed most of all that he keeps giving these unnecessary chances to a player that doesn’t even want to stay.

Every time I say it, I get angrier and Angrier. And Alan Shearer said it best. He said that this has to be so frustrating for Lacazette and as my co-editor here Andy asked, what has he done wrong? What has anyone done to get to this point, where someone dedicated to the long-term of the club like Lacazette is passed up for no discernible reason.

And the he comes on and scores. As if reminding us that he’s still the same striker that he always has been and that there is nothing else he can do to lift the team. He just has to be trusted.

Why… why isn’t he trusted to lift the team and do what he has been doing this whole time? It shows such a disconnect from what this team actually needs that it’s legitimately concerning. This has to stop.
