Arsenal have been plagued by Harry Kane for far too long and they don’t have a similar thorn in the Spurs side. Alexandre Lacazette is a fine candidate.

The North London Derby is nearly upon us and there is a good deal of uneasiness in the air for Arsenal, who are not riding high in the confidence department. Meanwhile, the Spurs have to be feeling pretty optimistic, and not only because they are away from Wembley.

But there will be plenty of confidence from Alexandre Lacazette, who nabbed himself a brace for France against Germany. And while it was only a friendly, and one of the goals was the prime example of a wide-open tap-in, it will go a long way for Lacazette.

Mostly because he can’t be feeling too good about himself after being yet again dropped for no logical reason against Manchester City. Although, if it was all an attempt to wind up Lacazette for the North London Derby, then it could be interesting. Albeit a bit too much thinking.

All this does, though, is set the table for Lacazette to do something special. Which is something the Gunners have needed – someone who can pester the Spurs, rise to the occasion and have confidence against our dear rivals.

Who could do that better than Lacazette? The key to why Harry Kane continues to score against us is the same reason why he continues to score against everyone else. The man knows how to take his chances and when presented with an opportunity, he isn’t going to miss it.

That’s Lacazette too, in theory. Lacazette does not miss his chances. He has six goals on the year (should be seven) and that’s in spite of Arsene Wenger continuously hindering the total impact he could be having.

It’s just a microcosm of why we signed Lacazette in the first place. We signed him, presumably, to have someone that knew how to finish and take his chances no matter the opponent.

“No matter the opponent” includes Spurs.

We haven’t defeated Spurs in years and that does a bit of a mental tap dance on the head. Lacazette was not a part of that dance, which just adds to the reasons why he is the perfect candidate to break it and start up something special against a team that deserves to be beaten.

Of course, I guess this is all assuming Lacazette even starts, which is not fun to have to think about.
