11. Danny Welbeck
Danny Welbeck was the club’s top performer early on, shooting out to three goals and announcing himself as the unexpected participant in the race for the Golden Boot. He was so good that it was becoming obvious that he had to start over Alexis, who had not been so good.
And then he got hurt. And then he got hurt again. And just like that, Welbeck’s influence was waning because of the same old problems – he couldn’t stay healthy.
What was most remarkable out his burst to three goals was that he was a legitimate threat to the opposing goal. These weren’t “accidental goals” by any stretch. They were most definitely efforts worthy of an Arsenal first team starter.
It’s always a crap-shoot determining what comes after a return from injury. No doubt Welbeck will be just as active in the team, but will his sharpness still be there? We will have to wait and see.
