Arsenal: Shut up about Tottenham Hotspur and listen to Tony Adams

There has been another lengthy exposé declaring that Tottenham are leaps and bounds better than Arsenal. Quiet. Listen to Tony Adams.

My newest pet peeve has been found. All of these people preemptively saying that Tottenham Hotspur are better than Arsenal and the “gap” is “growing exponentially.” It’s maddening, really, because chirp all you want, there isn’t a shred of evidence to support that claim, other than current form.

People have been talking about the power shift in North London, but it’s all utter garbage. Spurs have proven themselves as one major thing these past few years, as they have “started shifting power” – they have proven themselves as choke artists.

Ask Tony Adams. Mr. Arsenal is speaking the truth in a wave of hullabaloo gushing over “what the Spurs can be.” But they aren’t. And until they are, there is no power shift.

And if the Spurs don’t win anything this year, there is a very good chance that some of these “star” guys that have the world swooning over them, may start to seek bigger and better clubs who actually have a shot at winning something.

Before I get too far ahead of myself, back to Tony Adams. Adams, in an exclusive interview with the Islington Gazette, said the only thing that people need to remember:

More from Pain in the Arsenal

"“I think the big difference between Tottenham and that Arsenal team and the Tottenham now is that they should have won the league the year Leicester won it and got over that line. If they had done that then, they would have claimed their first trophy which is a massive thing to do psychologically.”"

Adams was very respectful of Spurs, so I now feel I must do my due diligence – yes, they are talented. And there is a lot to be excited about in their ranks, if you’re a Spurs fan. But as Arsenal found out during their trophy drought from all their rival fans – nothing matters but trophies. Not hype, not potential, not how pretty a goal looks.

Even if the Spurs win both North London Derbies and finish above Arsenal, if they don’t win anything, then what’s it all worth? You don’t remember who finished second, or third. You remember who won the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup. That’s the way football works.

So cut the crap and listen to Tony Adams. They haven’t gotten over the line yet. I’ll supplement that with my own commentary – until they do, there is no power shift. It’s one thing if Spurs are finishing above Arsenal by 15 places. Then maybe we talk. But the ONE time they finished above, it was by three spots.
