Arsenal: There is no meter stick for how far behind Tottenham still are

Arsenal were supposedly on the sucky end of a power shift, but that proved to be bullocks as usual. You can’t measure just how far behind Spurs are.

Prior to the North London Derby, Arsenal were being dunked face first into a vat of acid. They stood no chance, Spurs were the best team since Brazil, 1954, Mauricio Pochettino’s hands cure all sicknesses and Alli, Kane and Eriksen became the new Avengers. It was remarkable, how far a team can get without doing anything.

You can’t deny the talent that Spurs have on their team. Obviously. There are a lot of young, talented players there and Pochettino clearly makes the team better than the sum of its parts. That’s cool and all.

But the sum of the parts consistently craps itself in big away fixtures. Not just that, but the sum of those parts has yet to accomplish a single solitary thing. I mean, they don’t have anything. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zilch.

Well, they have a couple DVDs, but not anything more than that.

That’s why I refuse to engage in this “how far behind Arsenal are Spurs” conversation. Paul Merson said it was ten years. Plenty of other people have chimed in, saying that the Gunners have already been overtaken.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Pochettino seems to have skipped a few levels, denying that he even wants to win the FA or League Cup, because this team is that good. And, without wanting to sound like a broken record player, all I keep asking, and all a lot of people keep asking is, okay, but what have you accomplished?

Ask any Spurs supporter that and there is no way around it. Silence. A few “um’s” and “er’s” but at the end of the day, they have accomplished nothing. If they’d have slaughtered Arsenal 5-0, that’d have sucked and they’d have bragging rights. But guess what? Still nothing.

Until Spurs accomplish something – even the damn League Cup – then you can’t determine how far they are behind, because infinity can’t be measured.

I’m not saying this because I hate Spurs (eve though I do hate Spurs), I am saying this because you don’t play the game to play an attractive brand of football. You don’t play the game to have fun or to produce a quality player. you play the game to win things and until you win things, you are at risk of being forgotten.
