Former Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista has spoken out about his time in England and it’s safe to stick another feather in Arsene Wenger’s ugly cap.

Every big club is going to let the occasional player slip through their ranks without getting what they deserved. Some will outrage supporters more than others. Arsenal is no exception. Despite Arsene Wenger‘s faithful intent of being loyal to his players and giving them all the necessary tools to succeed, it’s impossible to cater to every single one of them.

That said, there have been a lot more blemishes slipping through the Emirates lately. Lucas Perez and Joel Campbell come to mind. These were guys that seemingly proved themselves before they were treated poorly and even now, the end is not clear.

Lukas Pdoloski has to fall into that category too. These are players that Wenger just did not like and their wasted years are like feathers in an ugly cap that Wenger still has to wear when a similar situation comes up.

Gabriel Paulista was not treated like the three prior players were. But he does feel there was a good degree of injustice done him during his time at the Emirates.

"Sometimes I’d play three or four games and if Arsenal lost, I’d be dropped and everyone on the outside would say, “It’s Gabriel’s fault.” That wasn’t good for me. People thought, ‘When that guy plays, Arsenal always lose"

That is just a short blurb of what he said, via SkySports, about his time at Arsenal and his new, exciting time at Valencia, where he is proving himself the capable defender yet again.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Gabriel isn’t wrong. He was never given his fair chance to prove that he was meant to play with the Gunners. When he did play, he showcased some incredibly talent and passion. Twice he pocketed Romelu Lukaku, which is always a pleasant experience.

But he isn’t in the same category as the other three, at least not to the same magnitude, for a couple of reasons. For starters, Gabriel struggled to stay healthy. That is always going to get in the way of a player finding consistent game time.

The other way it is different is because Gabriel was sold before he could really start to feel the pain of being shunned. These other three guys were buried at the club. Lucas and Campbell may still be after their respective loans.

So in that sense, Gabriel should be pretty pleased with how it turned out.

But I totally get what he is saying. He could have made it in North London if he had only been given a bigger opportunity.
