Arsenal’s link to Antoine Griezmann has always been a point of speculation, but his recent revelation burns the eyes to even read.

Arsenal’s links to various superstars are always met with a bit of a dubious eye. I would love to just glance over the majority of them and pretend like they don’t exist, but they always seem to make the biggest headlines.

One such case was Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman just always felt like he was destined for the Emirates. He had such an obviously positive relationship with Arsene Wenger and the Gunners were in need of a striker when he was the most available.

Even prior (and after) Alexandre Lacazette arriving, there had been talk of him still making the trek, despite his comfy position at Atletico Madrid and his own assertions that the Premier League has always looked desirable, not to mention how young he still is.

But that talk, and all talk associated with him ever coming to Arsenal, may be forever over, as Griezmann himself wrote in his recent autobiography.

In what has to be the most painful thin to read since I don’t even know what, Griezmann went into detail about how his 2013 transfer to Arsenal broke down. Griezmann was told by Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi to put aside all other offers, because Wenger wanted him.

"“I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting … when there was no news, Eric [Olhats, Griezmann’s former agent] called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting,” he wrote (as quoted by the Metro).More from Pain in the Arsenal3 standout players from 1-0 victory over Everton3 positives & negatives from Goodison Park victoryArsenal vs PSV preview: Prediction, team news & lineups3 talking points from Arsenal’s victory at Goodison ParkMikel Arteta provides Gabriel Martinelli injury update after Everton win"

And now, the painful part:

"“Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. ‘I don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen. ‘So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him “Forget it, after the blow they gave us.”‘"

This is simply atrocious. And in case you need a reminder, this was the summer that the Gunners were also after Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain. All three of these strikers ended up moving (Suarez and Griezmann a year after Higuain), to Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Napoli, respectively.

In case this needs pointing out – clearly they were all available. All of whom could have put in a superb partnership with Olivier Giroud. Not least of all Griezmann, who is doing that very thing for France now.

Instead, who did the Gunners get? Yaya Sanogo. If that isn’t the biggest fail ever, I don’t know what is.
