Arsenal Vs West Brom: 5 things we learned – Mesut Ozil: Where art thou?
4. Damn it, Mike Dean
It’s time to talk about Mike Dean and his shocking decision. Let me paint the picture.
Kieran Gibbs is trying to duck inside Calum Chambers. With the ball bouncing high that is difficult to control, he tries to angle a flick inside the defender. The ball strikes Chambers on the arm. His arm is bent, in what Gary Neville described as a ‘jockey’ position, and is in front of his body. He is stood less than a metre away from Gibbs. He has no chance to get out of the way of the ball. Apparently, that all adds up to be a penalty.
It is actually quite difficult to see how Dean has given a penalty. I am not usually one to blame the referees. I feel that it is a little immature, often trying to deflect the blame from other factors that are within the control of the team. But this situation is such that I just can’t do that. Mike Dean, you are a tw*t. You just cost Arsenal two points. Damn it!
