Arsenal: Are the players as committed as the fans?
By Rory Picton
After Sundays game against West Brom, the fans were not happy with Arsenal’s performance, shouldn’t our players be upset too?
The Arsenal players should be just as upset as the fans but it doesn’t show, as nothing ever changes. Our players make a lot of money just to waltz around a pitch for 90 minutes.
Shouldn’t we expect more? Our players are getting paid some of the highest wages in the league but we’re still not as good as the other teams. Is it the manager Arsene Wenger or is it just poor chemistry?
Arsene Wenger has been managing Arsenal since 1996 and so he’s gotten old. Maybe he doesn’t have the same fire he once had. With other managers you can see the fight and desire to win each week.

With Wenger, you see a man who is maybe getting too old for this. Arsene Wenger has just been charged by the FA for his comments about Mike Dean. If only he showed that much fire and fight towards some of his players.
He seems to spend more energy on the refs and their decisions then his own team. Yes, it was a poor call but there’s nothing you can do about after the game. Move forward.
We have no leader on the field, no one that will get in your face and make you upset with your performance. We have no Tony Adams or Patrick Viera. Tony Adams is one of the most disciplined footballers I’ve ever watched. He was incredibly intelligent.

Laurent Koscielny is not a leader out there on the pitch. Per Mertesacker is much more of a leader. Sadly his use is limited by his age and abilities.
When you watch the games you see the younger players having more drive and hunger than most of the senior players. We have been stuck in fourth place mediocrity for too long. We need to fight our way back to the top. We need to sign world-class players, we need to bring in fighters who will fight for the badge. Too many of our players are playing for the paycheck rather than the badge.
Against every club in the Premier League I want to see Wenger field his best side. I want to see them fired up. Do I want to see him running up and down the touch-line for 90 minutes? No. But I would like to see more spirit from him and the players.
