Arsenal: Selling Mesut Ozil certainly shouldn’t be ruled out
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have been in a sticky situation with their contract rebels for some time, but even with Mesut Ozil’s return to form, a sale can’t be out of the picture.
The endless contract sagas of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez were supposed to be resolved at the end of December, but still they truck on, with Arsenal seemingly no different than the start of the season, when it was equally unknown what was going to happen.
However, one major change has happened since that time. Alexis Sanchez has seen his value to the club plummet considerably and Mesut Ozil has seen his skyrocket. It went from there being not a soul interested in the German and half the known world interested in Alexis to their suddenly being suitors for Ozil and perhaps less so for Alexis.
That’s because Ozil has put aside all his criticism and become the world class midfielder that he has flirted with off and on throughout his years in professional football.

It’s been months now since Ozil had a poor game. Beyond that, he has looked inspired, effective and dare I even say happy.
So much so that it is now becoming taboo to speak of Ozil being sold. He is a favorite to build around going forward, but it needs to be remembered that the Ozil that we see here and now is not necessarily the Ozil that we will see the next day. Or the next.

Ozil is a very hot and cold player, and while he is showing glimpses of consistency now, that is not enough to rule out any thought of a sale.
Pressed on our latest podcast of determining a price that I would be okay seeing Ozil depart for, I came up with anything in the £30m range, if abroad and no price whatsoever if to Manchester United.
The way I see it, while Ozil is in superb form, that cannot be guaranteed. He is still getting up there in age and the club has struggled to build around Ozil enough for him to have the impact he should be having.
There are options out there, plenty of options, that may be able to not only fill the gap Ozil leaves, but even improve on it. It sounds like heresy to say that, again, because of his current form, but there is more to prolonged relevance than current form.

I’m not saying I want him sold, but for the right offer, there aren’t many players in this Arsenal club that I would feel overly-determined to hang onto.
