Arsenal: Where are Alexandre Lacazettes shooting boots?
By Rory Picton
Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette has lost his scoring touch, are we heaping too much pressure onto the french man or is our criticism justified?
Its now been eight games without a goal for Arsenal’s new French forward, Alexandre Lacazette. Is it time to question whether he was a good signing or not?
In the summer of 2017, Arsenal signed then Olympique Lyonnais forward Alexandre Lacazette for a club record fee of £53 million. In the beginning of the season, he looked bright scoring, his first goal in the very first game against Leicester City, and in the second minute, no less.
He would go on to score against Bournemouth and grab a brace against West Brom. Since then, he hasn’t hit the heights we all expected of him. But are fans too quick to judge?

This club hasn’t had a mobile and lethal striker since Thierry Henry, and this move was welcomed by fans. We signed Danny Welbeck back in 2014 for £14 million and look how that turned out.
The Gunners needed this striking change and so did Olivier Giroud. Giroud has had very little competition at the Emirates since his arrival. Lacazette is Giroud’s back up on the French National team so this move seemed fitting. Giroud’s game time has been severely cut down due to the new signing but some argue the big Frenchman has still yet outshone the new man.

Lacazette hasn’t hit the heights we all had hoped for this season, netting only eight goals. Naturally, fans are quick to point out the substitutions that Arsene Wenger makes. Taking Lacazette off in just about every match is not great for a striker who feeds off confidence. Maybe there’s an underlying problem with Lacazette and Arsene Wenger, but that is pure speculation.
Needless to say, the Gunners need Alexandre Lacazette to find his shooting boots and fast. Maybe a goal against upcoming Bournemouth would help his confidence, any type of goal would help. Lacazette is a clinical finisher, with plenty of accolades and experience to flourish at Arsenal. Lacazette just needs to outshine his competition in North London.
He comes to us with a considerably prestigious resume, scoring 100 goals in seven seasons for Lyon. He won Ligue 1 player of the year in 2014-15, while also making Ligue 1 team of the year 3 times 2013-14, 2014-15,2015-16. Should he hit those heights with the Gunners, the transfer fee would we well justified.
