Arsenal are dragging their feet over the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer, but if there is one guy who should be aching for it, it’s Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal are not known for overstocking any position on the pitch. It is by complete chance that they have someone managed three quality leftbacks. They are, however, known for taking a damn long time to push through a transfer, especially when it comes to top tier players.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in that status right now – where everyone involved seems to want the move to happen, but Arsenal can’t drum up the transfer fee that is required.

In the meantime, we can think about who the move will effect, and obviously the first name that comes to mind is the Gunner’s current record-signing, Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman was bought just this past summer and to some, it seems odd that Arsene Wenger would double-up on elite strikers so close together.

However, this is not a move that would get in Lacazette’s way. Far from it. This would do for Lacazette what the Gunners never did for Giroud – it would provide a spark, an added inspiration; someone to take the spotlight and bask in it, as he has previously done.

The one thing we need to remember is that Wenger is not going to bench Lacazette for Aubameyang. They are going to play in tandem (although we don’t yet know how) and in return, Lacazette will be the one to benefit.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Lacazette has not become a goal machine just yet, and while that may seem like a problem, it really isn’t. He is still making important runs in behind the defense, he is still creating chances, linking up play and being the striker that we need. But the fact that he isn’t putting copious amounts of goals up is why he should be excited for Aubameyang.

Aubameyang is the striker to put all those goals up, and to work in tandem with someone like Lacazette should feasibly bring out the best in both of them. Lacazette gets someone to punch home the goals and maybe alleviate some of that pressure and Aubameyang gets a strike mate capable of doing the same, who can contribute to the attacking build up, not just work as a target man.

It’s like adding another layer to the attack. It’s not just deep midfield to attacking midfield, to striker, now there would be two levels of striker, likely Lacazette doing more of the second layer and Aubameyang serving as the icing on the cake.

It goes beyond just the internal competition, though it doesn’t need to. What shortcomings Lacazette has are answered by Aubameyang, and the same goes vice versa.
