Arsenal: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang piling up Alexis Sanchez similarities
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have cut loose Alexis Sanchez because of a lot of the same problems Dortmund are having with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The similarities are piling up.
According to St. David Ornstein, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have finally crossed their Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang impasse and are nearing a completed deal in the vicinity of £60m. But there is a catch, because there is always a catch.
That catch is that Dortmund will not sanction the move until they can find a replacement. It’s not unreasonable, after all, you can’t just not field a striker.
Somewhat conveniently inconvenient, Olivier Giroud could be that replacement, despite Arsene Wenger saying quite clearly that Giroud would not be going in the opposite direction, or at all. However, Wenger has been known to fib, especially lately.

Whatever the case, add this to the growing list of similarities between Aubameyang and the man we were about to literally run out of town, Alexis Sanchez.
It was just last summer that Alexis was on his way to Manchester City. All the Gunners had to do was identify a replacement to sanction the move and they were unable to do so, so the move failed. We can only hope that Aubameyang’s will not go the same way.
As mentioned, this is just the latest similarity to pop up. The most obvious similarity is that, while we just sold a wantaway superstar who was starting to become a bit of a festering wound at our club, Dortmund are trying to do the same with Aubameyang.

Both Alexis and Aubameyang have their eyes set on bigger and better things. Alexis somehow translated that to Manchester United. Aubameyang sees it as Arsenal.
Then there is the manner in which they have handled themselves. No one will say that Alexis didn’t still play hard, but he didn’t play smart. He lost a ton of his effectiveness throughout the season and it can clearly be chalked up to a lack of desire to be where he was.
Aubameyang faced at least two (I might have lost track) team-invoked suspensions for poor behavior and missed out on plenty of games in the process. Call it the affect of not wanting to be where he was.
It’s never an attractive thing, to see a player to adverse to playing for a team that he has a contract with, but if nothing else, consider it a sign of their ambition. They are so desperate to get to “higher” ground that they throw everything else away.

Maybe not the greatest trait, but hardly the worst. It’ll actually feel nice to be the “bad guys” in a transfer for once.
