Arsenal and Everton have both been linked with Marcelo Brozovic of Inter Milan. For Arsenal, he is not the answer but another problem.

On the 27th of January, Marcelo Brozovic of Inter Milan was linked with Arsenal (yet again) and Everton. Brozovic is not the answer to any problems Arsenal are having. So where does he fit in?

Marcelo Brozovic has just 776 minutes to his name this season with Inter, so maybe a possible move could be on the cards. At just £12m, Brozovic could be a steal for any club. We’ve even been linked with him in the past when he was valued around the £30m.

Arsene Wenger is keen to bolster his side as they push for a place in the top 4 so a signing like Brozovic could help.

That said, this club does not need a central midfielder, he would just clog up an already clogged up midfield. With the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Granit Xhaka, Mohammed Elneny and Joe Willock all keen on those positions. It begs the question why Brozovic? Why is central midfield a worry for them right now?

This club shouldn’t be splashing the cash on unnecessary signings with how hard that cash is to come by. Signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is about as unnecessary as they should be getting, and he is pretty necessary.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

With Aubameyang the Gunners have an extra threat going forward but with Brozovic they only have an extra midfielder who will sit on the bench. This club needs starters and players who will make a difference. Brozovic won’t. He would likely go down as another panic buy.

What would he bring to the team though? He is a box-to-box midfielder with great passing range and an eye for a killer strike from long distance.

That said, with Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Granit Xhaka used as the exact same, what’s the point? At that price and with his age I can see why clubs want such an experienced player, he also has 32 caps with the Croatian national team.

But Brozovic just won’t solve any problems for the club right now, he will only create more of a selection headache for the boss.

Who should Arsenal sign instead?

The Gunners need a strong center back who is a leader. Jonny Evans springs to mind. He has Premier League experience, has good size and is a leader on and off the field. The only problem I have with Evans is his age and price tag.

He is 30 years old and you can’t expect many more years out of him. Alan Pardew and West Brom value him at £27m, which is a bit steep. A player of his quality should go for no more than £18 million. Will they actually splash the cash? Who knows.
