Signing Mesut Ozil to a new contract – A+

If Aubameyang arriving in North London was somewhat surprising, then Mesut Ozil signing a contract was the revelation that the earth is flat. This was an eventuality that was seen as nothing more than a pipe dream, especially after Alexis Sanchez, who had been mirrored with Ozil greatly, departed earlier in the window. And yet, here we are.

While the precise details have not yet been announced, reports claim that Ozil has signed a three-and-a-half year deal worth £350,000-a-week. I will keep him at the club until the summer of 2021, when he will be 32 years of age. At that point, he will have plied his trade at the Emirates for eight of his very best.

It was initially feared that Mkhitaryan arrived as a replacement for Ozil. They are certainly very similar players. But that is no longer the case. In fact, Arsenal now boast one of the most fearsome foursomes in world football, and Ozil is at the very heart of it. What wonderful news.
