Arsenal have an impending match-up with Everton at the weekend, and with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just arriving, do we really need to ask?

Arsenal were in a bit of a downward tail spin with the occasional updraft when they all of a sudden decided that this wasn’t good enough, despite how much they had resigned to it in recent years. And so, in answer to all the questions, they piled on the attack.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan came first and, after having a week with the team, Arsene Wenger still saw it necessary to sit him in favor of the season-long tragedy that is Alex Iwobi. Yet Mkhitaryan did far more in his half hour on the pitch than Iwobi had done all day.

And now we have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who carries an even higher profile than Mkhitaryan, but who was only acquired yesterday, trained alone, and has just two days between now and the match against Everton.

So the question that we have to ask, that we really shouldn’t have to ask, is will Aubameyang find his way into the starting XI against the Toffees?

As you can imagine, to most “simple thinkers,” there is not one conceivable reason why he shouldn’t be. He has to acclimate? Please. He has scored 100 goals in three years. There is no nuance to his game that he has to flesh out. He sits in the box and when he sees the ball, he thumps it with his foot and, ideally, scores a goal.

He makes runs over the top. That is no sort of tactical obstacle that has to be reacquired when moving to a new team.

Aubameyang is an elite player at very simple things. There is no such thing as acclimation for him. If, say we had just acquired someone with a developing skill set like Max Meyer, then sure, maybe it isn’t an immediate fit.

But Aubameyang? He is completely built and fully operational. There is nothing about the Premier League that is going to be that much of a hold-up for him. He has played deep into the Champions League and done just fine with it.

Yet, I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that annoying little imp strutting on my shoulder, yapping about how Arsene Wenger is a textbook over-thinker. He may have just acquired arguably the best striker in Europe, but there is absolutely no guarantee that he is going to start him.

I don’t think I need to point this out, but obviously I am quite opposed to the idea of not starting the club record signing at the first possible opportunity, even given a lack of “acclimation” with the first team.
