Arsene Wenger is coming under ever-so-familiar scrutiny since former Arsenal players are shining at other clubs, as well as being played in their proper positions.

With the recent mass Arsenal exodus of dead wood performing well at their new clubs, Arsene Wenger’s mishaps are proving to be more and more obvious than they ever have been. Not only are the exited players performing though, the players on loan and even players still at home in the squad are as well. They’re just not being used correctly.

Gabriel Paulista

Probably the most obvious and most painful addition to this list has to be Gabriel Paulista. Gabriel almost never performed on a consistent basis and was constantly under scrutiny for the Gunners.

Since joining Valencia, Gabriel has shone brighter than he ever did under Wenger, making himself known as one of the best center halves in Spain. Valencia are in third place in La Liga at the moment, with Gabriel being a critical member of their newly found form.

Theo Walcott

The most upsetting, yet overdue exit was that of Theo Walcott. Under new manager Sam Allardyce, Walcott has resurfaced. He’s become the player that all fans wanted him to be. Despite his underwhelming performance against Arsenal at the Emirates where the Gunners cruised past Everton, Walcott has been brilliant thus far for the toffees.

He has notched two goals and an assist in his first three appearances for the Toffees, showcasing the talent that fans always wished he could put forth consistently with the Gunners, yet never quite managed.

Aaron Ramsey

With Aaron Ramsey‘s form for Wales last season in the Euros and now him bagging a hat trick against Everton, the question turns to Wenger’s judgment. Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to the Welshman and the team if he were played in a more advanced position rather than having to toil in his deeper role?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Ramsey’s strongest talents are running in behind and shooting. So why play him deep? Like the old cliche: “It’s like having a Ferrari and driving it like a mini van.” That’s exactly what Wenger is doing with Ramsey.

Lucas Perez

Lucas Perez, the man who never got the chance he deserved. Perez continually put in consistent performances whilst with the Gunners, but the stubborn Frenchman never seemed to fancy him.

Despite him not being an all out superstar at Deportivo, Perez has still shown he could be a very useful player for Wenger. With Arsenal’s Europa League campaign set to start back up very soon, a player like Perez would do a world of good. Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyeng can only play so much.

Arsenal are clearly moving forward with their new signings, but is Wenger? Gazidis and Mislintat have shown an abundance of ambition in the January transfer window. It’s now up to Wenger to keep up with their fast-forwarding evolution of the club.
