Arsenal kept the faith in Danny Welbeck, refusing to sell him in the summer, which may be good timing because isn’t he supposed to be getting good again soon?

Arsenal face a pretty girthy pickle in the Europa League. After selling Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window, they chained themselves to Alexandre Lacazette for their Europa League hopes, which quickly became their Champions League qualification hopes as well.

So when Lacazette had a surprise knee surgery, we were left a bit stranded. It would be up to Danny Welbeck and Eddie Nketiah to power this team into the most important competition in terms of everything.

More on Nketiah in a later article, let’s talk about Welbeck. Welbeck is beyond frustrating. ANy player with the raw abilities that he has can literally conquer the footballing world, but he is so uncoordinated with his feet that it is truly bizarre.

Yet there are times where he is pure magic. Times where he defies everything and chips a keeper into the back corner and the whole world stops, stares, and has to rewind and check the shirt to make sure that is actually Danny Welbeck.

The thing with Danny Welbeck, though, is that those moments of magic are usually short-lived with a lot of time in between. He had a magnificent start to the season, scoring three goals so quickly that he launched himself in to the Golden Boot race, but an injury stole his best form from us. Typical Arsenal.

He hasn’t done anything since. And, if my calculations are correct (which they are bound to be at some point), we are getting to the point where Welbeck is due for some magic. It’s been about six months since his last glory, so, given his 2-3 glimpses of gold a year quota, he is certainly due for a couple quality matches, which I think we would all be thrilled to see redeemed for some conclusive performances agast Ostersunds FK.

Lacazette is scheduled to be back in anywhere between a month and two months, which should mean that when the next round rolls around, which is when things could get dicey, we may have Lacazette back.

However, it would be a bit more settling to go ahead and reinstall some confidence in Welbeck just in case the injury keeps Lacazette out longer than expected.
