Arsenal: Calum Chambers has first dibs over Daniele Rugani
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are yet again tied to young Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, but can he really be offered anything that Calum Chambers doesn’t already have?
I love the transfer links that Arsenal are picking up because, contrary to old times, there is now a very real possibility that they come to pass. After all, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was as unrealistic as they come, but look where we are now.
So the fact that Daniele Rugani is back in the picture is exciting. Who doesn’t love a talented young defender who is ready for the big time? The Gunners have been tied to him countless times and countless times it has gone unanswered.
Now, the Sun is reporting that Rugani is back on the transfer radar, seeing as how he can’t seem to break into the stacked Juve first team.

That’s all well and good, who wouldn’t want this young man on the team? The problem that I have is that if he is struggling to get into the Juve first team, he is going to be looking to move for the sole purpose of getting into the first team somewhere else.

That’s why you move. You don’t move to another club where it may be even harder to get into the first team. And that’s what he would be looking at coming to Arsenal.

Because, as it stands, barring something drastic, the back four is still in place and Arsene Wenger is a sucker for that formation, as he has made perfectly clear. The next in line behind Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny is already Calum Chambers.
That is key here – Rugani can’t overstep Chambers to anything. Chambers has waited for it. He’s worked for it. He’s earned it. Each time he takes the pitch, those rare, wonderful instances, he proves that he is ready to play in the Premier League.
To simply undo his progress by bringing in someone the same age who has no Premier League experience is to completely throw Chambers’ progress in his face and call it null and void. I have nothing against competition, in case you don’t know that by now, but it’s important to obey the rules of competition, which is not being adhered to with Sead Kolasinac.

Obviously I’d love to have Rugani on the team, my concern is just that we can’t offer him first team experience that he would so obviously require and he doesn’t yet deserve that at Arsenal. Tough situation. And this isn’t even considering Rob Holding.
