Arsenal have been in the business of selling dead weight and while I wouldn’t consider Hector Bellerin dead weight, £50 could convince me that he is.

Arsenal are changing before our eyes. No player is safe anymore. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Theo Walcott would actually be sold and never in my wildest nightmares did I ever expect Olivier Giroud to be sold. Yet here we are, without either one of them.

Arsene Wenger is no longer in charge, which means that emotional attachment has taken a back seat to practicality, and for that, we should be hesitantly thankful.

With most of the dead weight cleared out of the club, and even more than just dead weight, rumors are going to abound regarding the contract rebels as well as just about everyone else. Hector Bellerin falls into the grouping of “just about everyone else.”

There was a time when the thought of losing Bellerin back to his native Spain was horrifying. He was the next bonafide superstar and he was simply irreplaceable. Where else do you find another rightback with his skill set?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I still think the world of Bellerin and reckon he is still ticketed to be one of the best rightbacks in the game. It’s been an off year, but one off year does not spoil an entire career.

All that said, if the Gunners can milk £50m out of Bellerin, than I am packing his bags for him, no questions asked. Yes, he could be great, but we also have Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Calum Chambers who are proving capable of playing that role, perhaps even more effectively than Bellerin – this year at least.

And if you want to worry about bringing a true right back in, why can’t we nab someone like Elseid Hysaj from Napoli? There are options, that much is certain. Options inside and outside of the club that make me realize that Bellerin is not as irreplaceable as he once was.

Obviously we’d prefer if Bellerin stayed, seeing as how he is quite the special talent, but with £50m, the Gunners could not only replace him, but fund a good deal of another move as well, and getting a replacement and another player for the price of Bellerin sounds like a steal given how far he has fallen out of favor this year.

This is supposedly the “price tag” set on the Spaniard, so we will just have to wait and see what happens. I would love to get such a high fee for him though, as I reckon his value won’t ever get much higher and, sometimes, you have to sell at the peak.
