Hector Bellerin may be in for an eventful summer, but from Arsenal’s point of view, when debating his future, there is only one question to be asked.

Arsenal pulled out a rare youngster Yahtzee when they slid Hector Bellerin into a vacated Mathieu Debuchy slot. It worked out to perfection and everyone was convinced that Bellerin was going to take the world by storm.

He still might, but he also still might away from the Gunners, where the waters are getting a bit murky.

The Spaniard is currently splitting opinions as a £50m price tag has supposedly been slapped on him. Some believe he is the centerpiece of the future, some believe that this price will never get higher, so sell him now (that’s me).

Before aligning yourself, there is only one real question that needs to be asked, along with a couple smaller side questions. The main question is this – is he committed to the Gunners long term? Because if not, his value will most likely never be higher. If so, then perhaps we revisit the desire to sell because he does have the makings of a truly special player.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

That said, he has continuously flirted with the idea of returning to Spain, particularly Barcelona. So much so that it seems inevitable. If he is going to end up back there anyway and he isn’t exactly knocking the competition dead right now, what’s the point of holding him?

Which leads into the next question – is he vital to current operations?

You don’t want to sell a guy when you have no one else to replace him or his quality, but to answer the question, I would again say no. He has been relatively poor all year and I have seen both Calum Chambers and Ainsley Maitland-Niles take the role and do more with it than Bellerin.

Which leads into the next, cumulative question – if he isn’t vital to current success, if the club has better options and can invest in better options and if he wants to leave at some point anyway, why would you not sell him for a peak price that may never get any higher?

The only answer I can glean is if you think that price can get higher, but that is pure speculation and not guaranteed. He is at the proving point in his career where he needs to show progress. If he does, that price may go up, but do you risk it when the fee is already so high?

Again, I say no. Sell the guy. He is going to leave eventually anyway and we have plenty of other options to explore. It’s that simple. No more questions.
