Arsenal: “New contract” Aaron Ramsey will be main man
By Josh Sippie
Aaron Ramsey has had a tumultuous time at Arsenal, but the payoff is coming if they can land him a new contract and make him the main man.
Arsenal had a stress-inducing January dealing with the three contract rebels, and one isn’t even done yet. So you’d think they’d want to avoid that again. This summer, negotiations have to be completed around Aaron Ramsey.
The Welshman has not had an easy run of life in North London. After giving fans a taste of what he could do in 2013/14 in his starring role of Super Rambo, injuries and other players got in the way. That has changed now though, as Ramsey is proving that with his appearances come goals, no question about it.
Frank Lampard, the legendary midfielder in the same vein as Ramsey, brought this topic into conversation, saying how the Gunners can build around the Welshman. He also brought up an interesting point – has Ramsey ever felt like the main man?

Ramsey often found himself at odds with the defacto “main man” Alexis Sanchez, as they were arguably the only two players that could physically change the tidings of any given match all on their own.

Now that Alexis is gone, Ramsey has been joined by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who could also tout himself as a game changer.
That said, no one has been better this year than Ramsey. Through and through, he has been the absolute best when healthy and, at 27 years old, this is the start of the prime years of his career, when he will be at his absolute best.
Landing Ramsey a new deal is more important than any signing because new-contract Ramsey will become the main man. He will live in the spotlight and be the superstar of the team. That’s not a role for Mesut Ozil, nor is it a role for any of the new guys, as Ramsey has been impacting football in North London for far longer.
I have been outspoken about my desire to see Ramsey given the captain’s armband too. This is a guy that has run the gauntlet for Arsenal in terms of injuries and being played out of position. Both Ramsey and the club have waited a long time for this relationship to reach its peak and now that it finally is, to split the two up would be an unnecessary catastrophe.

Ramsey is main-man material, he has proven that time and again. So pay him what main men are paid and let him do what he has done this year, just more.
