Arsenal: Alban Lafont a premium second option to Timo Horn
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation may get ripped to shreds, so best to overkill. Alban Lafont is a fantastic addition to rival Timo Horn in the revolution.
Maybe Petr Cech doesn’t need to be completely removed from Arsenal. In fact, of course he doesn’t. I still dream of what would have happened if we’d have kept Wojciech Szczesny instead of David Ospina and actually had the nerve to challenge Cech.
But that is done and behind us and now we move forward. Goalkeepers galore are being linked with the Gunners. It’s as if the tabloids know that we aren’t happy with Cech and Ospina or something. Cech has been less than inspiring this year, despite his recent heroics, and Ospina was never going to be the No. 1.
In all likelihood, Ospina is out this summer and Cech is a bit of a question mark. His spot needs to be properly challenged for because it would either motivate him to be better or it would allow him to be a mentor to whoever challenges him.

Who should challenge him? That’s the question. Many like Jan Oblak because of the value placed on him, but as I covered in my praise piece on Timo Horn, the problem with Oblak is that he isn’t used to being under pressure, which we should assume any Arsenal keeper will be, given the state of this defense.

That’s why I opted for Timo Horn. At the bottom of the Bundesliga table, Horn has had to make more saves than just about every other keeper, and he does make more saves than Oblak.
Alban Lafont has now re-entered the conversation as well, as GFFN revealed reports that the young Frenchman is finally set for his summer move away from Toulouse. Guess who else has to make more saves on a regular basis than Oblak? Yeah, Lafont does.
Toulouse are not powerhouses in Ligue 1, as they are clinging to avoid relegation, sitting in 17th place by a point. Lafont has often been attributed as one of the few reasons why they haven’t been relegated yet. You want to talk about a keeper being able to save you points, Lafont is that guy.
Plus, Lafont is only 19-years-old and he is ready for a promotion to a top-tier team. I would love to think that we could get both Horn and Lafont, but both of those guys need bigger roles on a bigger club, and they will get it. Asking them to split that time, though, is a big ask, especially with Petr Cech still here.
