Arsenal need to sort out this Jack Wilshere mess, if for nothing else than because they owe it to the man. Rather, they owe it to each other.

What was the one thing about this past January window, early on, that drove everyone crazy? The damn indecision. It got to the point where I didn’t give a crap who Arsenal sold, I just wanted a conclusion to it all. It’s brutal to have to sit around and guess and speculate who is staying and who is going.

Both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez were in such a state of limbo that it was exhausting. Literally. And, despite the sizzling prospectus they brought to the club, the emotional attachment wasn’t nearly as strong as it is with Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere has three months left in his contract. That’s it. And according to recent reports straight from Wenger’s mouth. No one is any closer than they were before. It’s January all over again, except with a member of the immediate family.

The worst part about Wilshere’s status is the indecision, the lack of clarity. This goes back to Ozil and Alexis, whatever happens, let it happen. Dragging it out like a soap opera is the worst fate imaginable for all parties.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

For Wilshere, it has to be an emotional roller coaster. This is where he has spent his entire career and now he is saddled with the prospect of moving to another club. Even another club in England would be a culture shock.

He’s been through hell and back trying to find his groove with the club, so to stick him in this purgatory is just cruel.

And for Arsenal, as a club, there is always an emotional impetus attached to Wilshere. But beyond that, he still encompasses so much hope and potential. Not to mention that he may damn well be the best Santi Cazorla replacement that’s available out there. Surely, as a club, they’d love to resolve this and figure out if he can be counted on.

From the third point of view, the fans, I don’t even need to say much. We’ve had to suffer through the January circus, so what’s one more? Only this time around, it’s even worse. Not least of all because it’s the second time we’ve had to go through it and it may well not be the last.
