Arsenal: Max Meyer primed to test the “no easy fix” theory
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal don’t have many problems that are an easy fix, but with Schalke admitting that Max Meyer is leaving, that belief may be tested.
No deal will likely be announced anytime soon, no matter the circumstance, but that said, Arsenal can still receive concrete boosts, and they have just received one.
Max Meyer, after taking time to deliberate if he will pursue a contract extension with FC Schalke, has officially given a decision. Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has issued a statement and it went like this:
"At the moment we can and must expect that Max leaves the club in the summer. Everything suggests that. At the moment there is no offer from us and no wish from Max to have a conversation again."

It doesn’t get much more official than that. Max Meyer will be, and for the most part is available, and the Gunners have long been touted as the team in pole position to land the guy. Although Spurs and Liverpool are both in the race as well, Arsenal have a couple things those two can’t offer.

While No. 2 has me questioning if he actually wants to be a defensive midfielder, I find respite in knowing that a defensive midfielder for Arsenal is not what it means for other teams. While his primary objective will and has been to stop opposing attacks, there will be a greater opportunity with the Gunners to make the most of his creative abilities as well.
Why? Because what manager out there loves smaller, creative midfielders quite like Arsene Wenger?
Meyer is the Wenger dream. He is everything that Le Prof could want in a deep-lying midfielder because he does all the other things that, say, Francis Coquelin never could.
I, and many others, have been saying for awhile ow that the Gunners have “no easy fix” to solving all of their problems, but Meyer can easily test that theory. For those of us wishing that Santi Cazorla could find his way back to health, and moaning that, with him, things would have been different, this is the solution to that.
So, by extension, if you think that all of our problems could be solved with Cazorla, then you may be easily swayed by Max Meyer and his ability to do just what the Spaniard did.
