Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey’s contracts are up soon, should Arsenal step up their negotiations or look elsewhere for a midfield shakeup?

Arsenal could be without arguably their best stalwarts at the club come to the end of the season. Jack Wilshere‘s contract runs out at the end of the season. Aaron Ramsey‘s runs out in a year. With options abundant at the club and around the world for their positions. Is there life without the two?

This is a dangerous game with negotiations for the two midfielders. Jack Wilshere’s has offers from clubs abroad and domestically, why hasn’t he left yet? Should Arsenal have offloaded him in January for some cash or did they do the right thing? With options in the midfield abundant for the Gunners, all that remains is the quality in those positions. Wilshere is by far one of their most talented midfielders. The only issue is with his fitness.

Aaron Ramsey’s case is another kind of animal completely. His contract is up in the summer of 2019. Why is the club not pushing him to sign a contract? He has been with the club since 2008 and ranks as one of the few veterans with the club.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

He has been somewhat inconsistent in years past. So far this season, he has been outstanding, scoring seven in all competitions. He will be missed at the club, but they should absolutely step up their contract negations with him.

Is it time for a midfield upgrade, or is should Arsenal keep their options? With options abundant for the club, it only makes sense they look inward. Mohamed Elneny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have both been outstanding no matter where they play this season.

Elneny has been so good he was rewarded with a new and improved contract, you don’t get one of those for playing poorly. Maitland-Niles has looked promising this season. He has played so well in all the positions he has been asked to play.

Targets Abroad

Arsenal has also been linked with midfielders abroad, all promising or already established. Max Meyer of Schalke has been heavily linked with a move to North London. He is a promising young player who excites fans with every touch. Meyer would be moving on a free, too.

His move would only be if Wilshere is to leave as they are very similar in play style. Kerem Demirbay has also been linked with a move. Demirbay currently plays for Hoffenheim in Germany. He is driving force in midfield with either late runs or driving forward with pace. He also has a left foot like a cannon.
