Arsenal have had a bit of a void in one target area in recent years and both Calum Chambers and Rob Holding seem to recognize it suddenly.
A little peak behind the curtain here. What I normally do to uncover writing topics is simply Google “Arsenal” or search NewsNow for worthy stories. I’m used to transfer rumors and Arsene Wenger quotes.
I’m not used to that many player quotes. Unless they speak at Oxford or are simply being reported from social media, as is often the case with this club (back on top!).
Lately though, in the wake of a meaningless season, it’s been all Rob Holding and Calum Chambers who have been stepping up and talking about what needs to be done. Honestly, while I don’t read into what players say very often, I’m rather inspired by how seriously they are taking this opportunity.

It’s not even that they are shouting into the void, despite the season being done and dusted months ago. They are saying some of the things I have been dying to hear.

For instance, Rob Holding speaking out about demanding more from himself and the team demanding more from itself – that was some high-quality input. And while he has had very little opportunity since saying that, the little time that he has had has been inspired, almost as if he is putting that into practice.
And Calum Chambers has been no different, urging the team not to get too “wound up” about playing against CSKA Moscow.
It may sound like nothing spectacular, and on the surface, it isn’t. It’s just a quote at a time where headlines are pretty worthless. But for a team that has been devoid of leadership, both on the pitch and off, I love that these two young men – as well as Shkodran Mustafi, who is also quite young – are stepping up into this leadership vacancy and making their voices heard.
The best part, though, is that it is being matched on the pitch. Both Chambers and Mustafi – as well as Holding when given the chance – are showing improvements on the pitch to match their inspired voice off it.

So while it may seem like chump change in a failed season, it is certainly a welcomed bit of chump change after a decade and more of not having proper leaders stepping up and making it clear that they want to make a difference, not just for themselves, but for the team as well.
