Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has wished to play alongside Alexandre Lacazette. Okay. Wish granted, but it probably won’t be what he was expecting.

Arsenal have some serious firepower on their books, and figuring out a way to combine them is the key to unlocking the true potential buried within this team. Thankfully (for Arsene Wenger), it’s a bit easier given the restrictions placed on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

What it’s come down to is Aubameyang as the striker for the Premier League and Alexandre Lacazette as the striker for the Europa League. Which is convenient, but it also leaves two of our best players without much opportunity to play together.

For instance, against Southampton, Aubameyang was taken off for Lacazette. The last time they played together, against Stoke, they had a heartwarming moment of understanding each other’s situation and it led to a lot of hope among the Arsenal faithful.

But Aubameyang wants more.

"I hope we will have the opportunity to play together – it’s something I said when I first arrived that I hoped to play with him. We have different styles, but I think they’re styles that complement each other – he’s a very good player and a very kind person.More from Pain in the Arsenal3 standout players from 1-0 victory over Everton3 positives & negatives from Goodison Park victoryArsenal vs PSV preview: Prediction, team news & lineups3 talking points from Arsenal’s victory at Goodison ParkMikel Arteta provides Gabriel Martinelli injury update after Everton win"

Those were the Gabonese hitman’s words, as quoted by the Metro. And what words they are. That is the exact thing so many of us have been calling for and looking forward to for ages. Two world class strikers with Mesut Ozil in behind? Excuse me while I drool.

And Aubameyang’s wish will be granted. The problem is it might not be granted exactly as he was expecting it.

For instance, barring an unforeseen exit from the Europa League, we probably won’t see much more of their combining this year. It just doesn’t seem logical, as enticing as it would be to watch them out on the pitch together again.

Next year, however, is a different story. But the problem there is that Wenger is not a fan of two strikers, suddenly, even though it was a two-striker set-up that found him so much success in the first place.

What is more likely to happen is Aubameyang being used on the left wing and Lacazette through the middle. As we’ve seen, this isn’t the worst idea in the world, and has a lot of potential, but I don’t think it’s entirely what Aubameyang had in mind. Then again, what do I know.

Aubameyang will get what he wants, but it just may not be exactly as he he wanted it.
