4. Massimiliano Allegri

Of all the managers that have been linked with the Arsenal job, from Diego Simeone all the way through to Thierry Henry, there is not one who is as decorated and successful as Massimiliano Allegri. That is his main selling point. His track record.

He has won four Serie A titles, three with Juventus and one with AC Milan. He is chasing his fifth this season. While he is yet to win the Champions League, his Juventus teams have always been major players at the sharp-end of the competition, reaching the final on two occasions. He has also won three Coppa Italia’s with The Old Lady, establishing himself as one of the most prolific managers in world football in the past four years.

On record alone, he is seemingly the perfect man to replace Wenger. Experienced, a proven winner, capable of dealing with big-name players. But there is one slight problem: Character. Allegri is built in the Mourinho mould. While not quite as a abrasive and front-footed as the repugnant Portuguese, he does not ooze the same class and respect as a Wenger. For some, that may not be an issue. For me, it is. It’s why he does not rank any higher on this list.
