3. Thomas Tuchel

There are many reasons why Thomas Tuchel would not be a popular appointment as Arsene’s successor. He hasn’t actually won that much as a manager — just one DFB Pokal, the German version of the FA Cup for those uninitiated. He has had major fallings out with his clubs, most notably with Sven Mislintat, who is now the Head of Recruitment at Arsenal. He is not exactly steeped in experience.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

However, even in a brief spell at Dortmund, and then at Mainz prior, treading very much in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp, Tuchel brings a clear, concise and successful tactical style that I would very much like to see Arsenal adopt.

He uses the Gegenpressing of Klopp to aggressively pursue the ball when it is lost. His teams play in a free-flowing, high-energy style that demands movement off the ball and a quick-paced passing that shifts defenders in and out of their positions, unhinging them of their distances and their discipline. He attributes much of his style to Pep Guardiola, perhaps the greatest manager of all time who has just won the Premier League with one of the greatest English teams of all time.

In terms of tactics, there is probably no better manager to pursue than Tuchel. He lacks a prior connection to the club. He is seemingly on the verge of becoming Paris Saint-Germain manager. He does not get on especially well with Mislintat, though it is rumoured that they are willing to see past their differences for the betterment of the club. They prevent him from being my favourite replacement. But Tuchel and his tactics are certainly an intriguing option.
