Arsenal: Rob Holding contract an anchor in the sea of indecisiveness
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s future has more questions than answers, but seeing Rob Holding lock down a new deal is a superb anchor in a sea of unknowing indecisiveness.
There isn’t much to glean from Arsenal’s upcoming future. With the departure of Arsene Wenger, literally anything can happen, and while that is sweet, sweet music to some fans, most would have to admit that for as exciting as it is, it’s also a bit intimidating.
As in, we literally have no idea what is going to happen next. Most of the club is at an eerie standstill while we wait to see how they can fare in the Europa League, but that adds even more intimidation to the equation.
Through it all, we don’t even know what players are going to be around come next season. Alexandre Lacazette spoke out about how no one is safe. Anyone could be gone.

Again – exciting? Certainly. But the unknowingness, and the current, self-imposed indecisiveness is producing a sea of questions swirling around this ship. Any thing – literally anything – that can add a bit of stability, a bit of familiarity, is incredibly welcomed.

Rob Holding‘s contract does that. Just 22 years old, Holding has grown in his limited role with the club and showcased premier defending quality, if only we can tease it out of him a bit more. He represents the next wave of defensive talent that we hope can eliminate the need for big spending on the defensive side of things.
While we don’t know how long the deal is for, it’s safe to say that he will be locked in through his prime developmental years, as he nears his prime, which, ideally, will be spent next to our collection of budding young defenders in the center of the pitch, vindicating the Arsene Wenger one last time. As if he needs that.
Holding flourished when he first hit the team, helping them win the crucial FA Cup final against Chelsea by showing Diego Costa how cozy it can be in the pocket of a young Arsenal defender.
I know many people are expecting big signings on the defensive side of things this summer, especially with Wenger gone, but locking in Holding is an investment in the future, and I hope that, whoever we get, the right opportunities are still afforded to the likes of Holding, Calum Chambers and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

In any case, congratulations to Rob Holding. We are thrilled to have you for many more years.
