Arsenal’s season comes down to this match (and then, ideally, another). With a specific line o results needed against Atletico Madrid, here is how to watch.

Well, here we are. Arsenal are backed up against it, with all the world to play for and they have to do it against the best defense in Europe in their own backyard. No big deal, right?

I was once of the belief that the Gunners were at their best when they were truly up against it. But I reckon that it’s more a 50/50 shot in those situations. Sometimes they stepped up, sometimes they didn’t. It’s just that, with an inconsistent team like this they are, those moments of stepping up shine much brighter against a backdrop of anticlimactic results after an up-and-down season.

But I’m droning. The game itself has the highest stakes of any Arsenal match in quite some time. Win, and they have a chance to fight back into the Champions League in the most improbable way and ensure that life post-Arsene Wenger won’t be as despondent as it could be.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Lose, and it’s back to the Europa League (at best). Atletico, meanwhile, have their ticket to the Champions League next year already punched. They don’t need this trophy to get there. As such, you would have to imagine that the Gunners would want it more, but that is never a guarantee, as we have come to learn.

As far as team news, there is very little to highlight. All of the most crucial parties are back and healthy and they have to be feeling pretty confident and energized, because if not now, then when?

On the Atletico Madrid side, Vrsaljko is out due to his red card in the first leg that the Gunners were unable to capitalize on. Filipe Luis and Juanfran are also out due to injury, which means we may be seeing more of Thomas Partey playing rightback.

And that’s all you need to know. Here’s how to watch:
