Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette teasing the heights he can reach
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s perfect performances against Burnley brought out the best in a lot of guys, and if Alexandre Lacazette’s is anything go by, watch out.
Arsenal’s in-game headlines will be dominated by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who notched himself two goals and two assists. Despite starting as a left winger with Alexandre Lacazette up front, Aubameyang emerged the more dominant of the two.
But that is in stat lines alone. Because prior to Lacazette being subbed off, the Frenchman had a goal and an assist to Aubameyang’s sole goal.
For the 70 minutes that Lacazette was on the pitch, he was everything. He was the primary creator, he was the primary threat to goal and the was the guy pressure the back line and, one time in particular, almost creating a goal for himself based completely on his own individual effort.

I have been talking a lot about how many people’s “bests” we saw in this one, so it would be a crime against humanity if Lacazette was not mentioned as well, despite the dwarfing of his match caused by his early substitution.

Lacazette created the most chances on the team (4), and contributed to link-up play similar to what we are used to seeing out of our creative masters. Yet when it came time to threaten the goal, he was obviously just as capable, being a striker himself.
In short, Lacazette was equal parts supplier and finisher. He played whatever role was asked of him, be it striker, winger or No. 10, and he played them all remarkably well.
And do keep in mind this was Burnley, who are far from pushovers. If they looked a shell of themselves, it wasn’t just because they didn’t show up. It’s because the Gunners took them out of the match before they could do anything with it.
Lacazette is a huge reason that happened.
There was a lot of concern about how Lacazette would make due alongside Aubameyang, and if he could potentially be headed for a summer exit, but if this was a teaser of just how good he can be across the board, then he may be even better than what had originally been forecasted.
Lacazette was the finisher we all craved up front, but few talked about how much he could do off the ball. Now that it is coming through, the excitement has to be growing.
