Burnley may have been Alex Iwobi’s best performance of the season. Certainly, he looked close to his best in a slightly deeper midfield role, comfortable in receiving possession and driving forwards, rather than being thrust into the congested, more advanced spaces in and around the penalty area. And again here, while he did not reach those heights, Iwobi was certainly one of Arsenal’s better performers.

There were flaws in his display. His end product is still a major concern, especially his shooting, and he sometime slalomed his way down blind alleys, especially in wide areas. But, for the most part, Iwobi was again very good.

What was most pleasing was his willingness to dribble with the ball. His feet are lightning quick, he has deceptive speed and balance, and when he is confident, he dribbles with great intention and directness. That side of his game was still present on Wednesday — he attempted more dribbles than any of his teammates. He is a different player when he is confident, and it is slowly returning to him.
