Arsenal Vs Leicester City: 5 things we learned — What’s an away point?
2. Konstantinos Mavropanos will learn
Konstantinos Mavropanos was wonderful in his first two starts. His debut, against one of the best strikers in the country at one of the most daunting stadiums in the country, was mightily impressive. His follow-up against Burnley a week later only compounded the promise that he showed. But this was a poor night for the Greek defender.
Only 15 minutes had been played. Arsenal had just conceded and were already on the back foot. Then Mavropanos decided dally on the ball, allowing Kelechi Iheanacho to steal in, dispossess him, and drive towards the goal, only to be cynically hauled down. The mistake from Mavropanos was not the foul. The foul was clever. The mistake was his hesitation on the ball and his overlooking of the speed of senior football.
Remember, though, that Mavropanos is in his third senior appearance for Arsenal, is a 20-year-old defender who has never played in this country before, and is used to a slower game at youth level. Does that excuse the mistake? No, not at all. But he will learn from his error, improve, and may actually end up becoming a better player because of it.
