Arsene Wenger wanted to go out in more style than he is, but the ultimate goal he set up to accomplish at Arsenal has been a success.

There are a lot of problems at Arsenal football club. We can’t ignore that. But when you look at where those problems lie, they aren’t that impossible of a fix. If anything, they’re going to be pretty easy. It’s just a matter of taking stock and investing wisely.

Despite the fact that the club has now finished outside of the Champions League for two years in a row, something that for two straight decades seemed utterly impossible, there is a lot to look forward to, particularly in the personnel the club now boasts, not just on the pitch but in the front office as well.

There now stands a collection of well-known, superstar commodities and young, energetic, hungry new talents – again both on and off the pitch. It is one hell of a foundation to build off of for whoever comes next.

Which brings my to my point. Time and again Arsene Wenger said his top priority was to leave the club in a better state than he found it. It’s so easy to see that he did that. He did that a decade ago. A new stadium, trophies, values, all kinds of invaluable additions to make this club even more of a powerhouse than they were before him.

But there are some out there that say he ruined the club and took them back to where they were before he even took over.

That’s ridiculous. And to disprove it, all we have to do is look at present day. Look at the talent that this club has – mainly in the attack and midfield. There is so much there. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are both world class strikers and they are both going to be driving this line next year.

Building back from there, it’s a creative funnel. There are so many pieces in place already, such that whoever comes next won’t have much to do. A few key additions and solving the mental deficiency in away matches. That’s literally all they will have to do.

Which is in a better state than Wenger found it, because it compounds on the work he has done for this club prior to the struggle years.

Congrats, Wenger. You did what you set out to do, even if it doesn’t look like it to some.
