Arsene Wenger is stepping down at the end of this season. His Arsenal legacy is something to marvel at. He is one of a kind. Could there ever be another?

Arsene Wenger is stepping down after 22 years at the helm of Arsenal Football Club. He has built a legacy that may never be repeated at at this club or at any other club around the world. Wenger single-handedly changed English football, from dieting to different training methods.

The club has forever changed since Arsene Wenger took over in 1996. When he was appointed Arsenal manager many fans were critical of him, as he had previously worked in Japan. He also managed at AS Monaco, which was his first and only stop in European football before coming to his home.

Now that he is stepping down, this club is in the market to sign a new manager, something that hasn’t been said at the Emirates in over 20 years.

Arsene Wenger transformed Arsenal Football Club, his contributions can never be outweighed by his faults. Asked to take over a club with plenty of history and adhere to the values and principles, Wenger has done incredibly well when asked to balance the books after the switch from Highbury to the Emirates. He kept his side competitive in the Premier League and in Europe while still selling players to make up the money to pay off the stadium.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Bringing in players like Kolo Toure and Sol Campbell to create the Invincibles is one example, as are the acquisitions of Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka, two goalscorers who have changed the face of the club. Changing diets of the players and the training regimes, he made Arsenal into a European powerhouse. Wenger’s side went so far as to make the finals of 2006 Champions League against Barcelona.

His faults of the past ten or so years have changed the way fans see him. Wenger’s failures in the league and in Europe in recent seasons has seen his stock plummet. The fall from grace could be contributed to the lack of trophies from 2004 to 2014. Arsene Wenger has had to be patient and wait for his trophies to come. The fans haven’t been the most understanding and forgiving. Calls for him to resign, have been ringing out for the past few years.

Stands and statues for Mr.Wenger

For all of Mr.Wenger’s work, he has achieved too much good for his legacy to be tarnished. Rightfully so he should get a statue and a stand named after him at the Emirates. Arsene Wenger bowed out on Sunday to a final away win. He will always be considered as one of the most influential managers if not in the conversations as one of the best managers of all time. It is hard to imagine that there could ever be another like him, but then again, this is Arsenal Football Club.
