Mikel Arteta is the next Arsenal manager, if you believe certain sources, so it’s time to engage in a good old-fashioned session of puke and rally.

Well, Arsenal fans, here we are. The rumors seemed to all be taking a stroll towards the man that I think was least popular to be the next manager of our beloved club, but the first to announce that it is official is Goal.com.

Naturally, this doesn’t make it actually official just yet, but it’s looking more and more like he was perhaps the only candidate that the Gunners truly went hard in the paint after. Names like Patrick Vieira and Julian Nagelsmann looked to be as viable, but it’s been a Mikel Arteta schmooze-fest from day one.

I, like many others, wasn’t that big on Arteta. I liked him better than some options (Ancelotti, yack), but he is far from my first choice. And I look at it with such a degree of trepidation that it’s not funny.

But, I’m going to lean on a tactic I learned in college known as the puke and rally. For those unfamiliar, this is when you are drinking far more than you should and, in order to continue drinking, you just puke so you can get on with it.

In Arteta’s case, it’s a bit different, although probably just as likely to succeed (as in, not likely). I am suggesting that we all just puke out our distaste for this appointment and rally behind him, because I’ll be damned if Arsenal social media goes toxic before he can even be given a chance.

I will say this – we have seen what the brain trust at Arsenal has done in recent transfer windows. They have done a damn fine job and correct me if I’m wrong, but do we not trust them to bring in the right players, as they have been doing?

Is it so hard, then, to believe that they have interviewed the hell out of Arteta and simply see him as exactly what the club needs?

Especially if rumors are to be believed, that Arteta was behind the shake-up within the staff. That is cold-hearted, and we should love that.

I have puked all over the place about how I don’t think Arteta is the right man for the job, but now I am rallying behind my trust in the club.

I would hope everyone else can do the same. At the very least, let’s give him a chance. A real chance. Not just one match.
